Can it be mounted on a tripod?

Yes it can, and it also has additional ¼” photo mounts for your favourite accessories.

What's the payload?

The InMotion Slider is dedicated to smartphones, GoPro and light mirrorless cameras, with a payload of 2kg (4.4lbs) for horizontal filming and 1kg (2.2lbs) for vertical filming.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Does it stop between the pictures during time lapse?

Yes, it does. Thanks to its high quality stepper motor with 1/256 microstepping, the time lapse mode in the InMotion slider works similarly to that in top-end sliders. The InMotion slider moves, gently slows down to a complete stop, takes a picture, moves to the next point, gently stops, takes a picture and so on. During the complete stop, the InMotion slider freezes while taking a long exposure picture, making sure that the pictures and overall time lapse will not be motion blurred.

How is cloud rendering for time lapse handled if you have poor or no reception?

If you have poor or no reception, your footage is simply stored and processed later. Your RAW files are stored locally on the smartphone in digital negative format and later uploaded to the cloud over WIFI or LTE depending on your preferences.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What if I don’t like the way the cloud does the rendering? Are the raw images captured and saved for me to edit later?

You can use the presets or generate additional presets in the app. However, if you’re a creature of habit and you’d rather continue using other software, it’s no problem. Just log into the web client, download your files directly from InMotion Cloud and process them further using your favourite raw processing software like LRTimelapse, Adobe Lightroom etc.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What’s the cloud render cost?

InMotion offers you 1GB free cloud storage for the first year. If you need more storage, you can purchase additional 10GB with rendering capabilities for $4.99/month.

Will my phone fit in the slider mount if it's in a charging case?

Because we know you love your big charging case, we’re working on increasing the clamping range of the smartphone mount. In the meantime, if your smartphone with charging case is too wide to fit, you can mount it on the ¼” thread mount of your InMotion Slider.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What happens if I get a call or a message while I’m filming?

Smartphones generally prioritize phone calls and messages over mobile apps so we recommend using airplane mode whenever recording directly on your smartphone.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

If the phone I’m using to control the InMotion Slider is also the camera I am recording with, will it be easy to use the controller app while the phone is attached?

Yes, the slider will be easy to control while your smartphone is attached.

We didn’t want to make a cheap remote control that works via IR because that’s what low-quality sliders have and we believe that your iPhone is the best controller you can use.

You can use one of the many presets to set your desired slider actions before attaching your phone for filming. You can also bring the smart clapper board in the mix. So you can choose your preset, then start your slider recording and movement using the bluetooth-activated clapper board.

Also, in the near future we will implement voice control for all shots that don’t need audio recordings, not to mention smartwatch integration.

Another option we will offer in the future is a drawn movement graph - meaning you can draw the movement (a line showing speed vs displacement) you want your slider to execute and then the slider will execute that exact movement.

Does InMotion integrate with 3rd party apps (like Filmic pro)?

We are working towards 3rd party app integration and look to have it available in the very near future. In the meantime, the InMotion app has tons of great features that might just make you forget about other third party apps. :)

Do you provide curved tracks as well?

The InMotion Slider features parallax movement, which helps you achieve a similar result to that provided by curved tracks. For this reason and because it would have reduced its portability, we didn’t find it necessary to include curved tracks.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Can it also do object tracking?

Yes, it can. By using parallax mode and momentum from the sliding motor, the slider will mechanically track an object that is located 70 cm away from the slider.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Does the camera device tilt when it’s on the slider?

We might add this in the future if our backer community requires such a feature. For now, the InMotion Slider performs seamless pan and slide movements.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

The main unit of the slider is not centered. Will this cause balance issues and vibrations?

The motor is not placed in the middle to allow more space inside to accommodate a bigger battery. Also, the electronics can sink the heat to the enclosure easier, so you can get higher current/bigger power out of the same motor. You get longer travel too! If the connection point would be all across the main unit, you would get 1.5” less slider travel. We’ve tested the slider extensively to ensure there are no vibrations or balance issues, so you can trust the slider operation is silky-smooth! Furthermore, 90% of the weight is exactly at the mounting point, so it doesn’t cause any problems in terms of balance or wear of the sliding mechanism.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

How is it that the slider can rotate and slide, yet it can still be bought at such an affordable price?

This is thanks to the gearing mechanism inside the slider. The mechanism makes it possible to use only one motor for all its functions instead of two separate motors: one for sliding and one for rotating. We tried many previous alternatives and have done extensive testing until we found the best possible solution that would enable us to bring a slider of incredible quality and capabilities to so many filmmaking enthusiasts out there.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What accessories do you offer with the slider?

Every slider comes as a standard with 1/4 Inch Screw, Ball Joint Mount, Smartphone Mount, Control Unit Dock, 110V/230V Power Supply and Power Supply Adapter.

In addition, you can purchase as add-ons the following accessories: hard case, 15” extendable rails, extra battery, motion trigger, clapper trigger, 360° platform.

*all accessories available to be purchased as add-ons are included in the “Early Bird: InMotion Slider Fully Loaded” and “InMotion Slider Fully Loaded” pledge levels.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

How long does the built-in battery last?

Up to 6 hours.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

How long does it need to be fully charged?

Approximately 4 hours.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What’s the slider’s top speed in video mode?

At the moment, the top speed is about 2in/sec.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Does the main control unit make any noise when the slider is moving? If so, will that noise be picked up by my recording?

Thanks to a special friction-lowering layer applied on the rails, the sophisticated motor and the sinusoidal control of that motor, the device is very, very quiet. So you will be able to use audio directly from your smartphone recordings.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Does it come with any accessory to tie it to a backpack?

Although the slider doesn’t come with a backpack-carrying accessory, you can use any skate backpack and just clamp the slider to it like you would have zipped your skateboard.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What type of connection does it use for charging (i.e. micro-USB, etc.)?

InMotion uses regular USB type A connector.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Is InMotion waterproof?

InMotion is weather-proof. So although you cannot go deep sea diving with it :), you can use your slider in heavy-rain conditions without any worries.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Can it be powered using an external power supply?

Yes it can. Thanks to the built-in battery, you can also hot-swap batteries for extended recording time (like continuous time lapse videos).

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes, we do! Simply select your preferred pledge level and choose the country you wish to have your rewards shipped to. Kickstarter will automatically display the shipping price relevant to your pledge level and country of destination.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Will I have to pay duties/VAT to receive my reward?

Because we ship worldwide directly from our manufacturer in Asia and duties/taxes are different in each country, we can’t retain additional duties/VAT in a manner that is accurate and/or fair for each backer. Any relevant duties/VAT will therefore be the responsibility of each backer. If any duties are applicable, these may be charged at the time of receiving the package. To check whether or not there are duties/VAT applicable, please contact your local post office.

InMotion will make sure to include in your package all documentation relevant to custom clearance, doing our best in this way to assist you with a speedy clearance of your pledge.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 13:26

Are the photos and videos on the campaign of the final slider version?

All photos and videos on the page are of the final slider prototype. The final version of the InMotion Slider will be very close to this, although changes in design, functionality and materials might take place when optimising the design for mass production and switching from heavy aluminum to lightweight ABS material.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

Do you guarantee delivery of my reward in Jul 2018?

While we will do our best to deliver all pledges as soon as possible, it’s worth remembering that some mass production processes are not within our control and so the delivery date is not an absolute certainty. That being said, we have been very conservative in setting the production and delivery deadlines. We aim to exceed your expectations and deliver early, rather than face unforeseen delays and disappoint you. One thing we promise: we will be fully transparent and will communicate with all our backers through all stages of manufacturing so you are always aware of the progress.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

When do I provide my shipping details?

Once the campaign ends, we will email a survey to all our backers. The survey will also include a section for shipping details, so that’s when you get to provide us with the address you want us to send your slider to.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What shipping method will you use to send my reward?

We’ll use different courier services to ship to different countries, depending on the most efficient options. Please note that each country has different import protocols and the custom clearance formalities may cause delivery delays that we have no control over.

Last updated: October 24, 2017 05:26

What is your refund policy?

When the campaign ends, your pledge (which we are beyond grateful for!) is immediately used to fire up the production line so your InMotion Slider gets delivered as soon as possible. For this reason, we will not be able to offer refunds to backers once the campaign has ended.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
